The Spirit Of Reggae Month 2026 Ignites With Tributes To Industry Trailblazers

Reggae Month 2026 launched in Jamaica under the theme “Rhythms of Resilience” to celebrate the genre’s global impact and support its continued evolution. Organized by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) and the Ministry of Culture, the month-long festival features over 60 events, centering on Kingston but extending internationally. 

Key Celebrations and Tributes

  • Dennis Brown (The Crown Prince of Reggae):
    • An early birthday celebration was held on January 31, 2026, at the Hollywood Rooftop in Florida.
    • On February 1, a national tribute at National Heroes Park in Kingston honored his 69th birthday with performances by Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith and Dean Fraser.
    • JaRIA hosted a free “Honouring the Crown Prince” all-white event at the Edna Manley College Amphitheatre.
  • Bob Marley (81st Birthday):
    • February 6 marks Marley’s 81st Earthstrong with the theme “Positive Vibration”.
    • Main activities include a day-long celebration at the Bob Marley Museum (56 Hope Road) from 7 AM to 6 PM, featuring a Kids’ Village and live performances.
    • A major tribute concert is scheduled at Emancipation Park in Kingston.
  • Other Icons:
    • Jimmy Cliff will be honored during the “Rocking the Cliff” tribute on February 11 at Coral Cliff in Montego Bay.
    • The Reggae Genealogy Music Festival (Feb 7) in Plantation, Florida, will present Lifetime Achievement Awards to Sly DunbarMr. Vegas, and Leroy Sibbles

Ongoing Event Series

  • Reggae Wednesdays: Weekly live concerts at the Edna Manley College Amphitheatre throughout February.
  • Reggae Open University (ROU): Academic and industry workshops hosted by JaRIA across multiple cities, including Kingston, Montego Bay, and Mandeville.
  • Dancehall Week: A dedicated focus on the genre running from February 22 to March 1, 2026.
