Asafa Powell Honored with 2024 Bleu & Bougie Superstar Award: A Tribute to Jamaica’s Track and Field Icon

Retired sprinter Asafa Powell will be honored with the 2024 Bleu & Bougie Superstar Award during the upcoming event at Devon House in Kingston. Powell, one of Jamaica’s most accomplished athletes, retired from track and field in 2022 after a successful career that included multiple Olympic and World Championship medals.

Promoted by Elite Weekend, Bleu & Bougie is a highly anticipated event taking place on Saturday, followed by the White Soiree En Blanc the next day. These events serve as a prelude to the Boys’ and Girls’ Championships at the National Stadium.

Jerry McDonald, co-producer of Bleu & Bougie, emphasized Powell’s global impact and significant contributions to athletics. Powell made history by breaking the 100-meter world record twice, with times of 9.77 and 9.74 seconds between June 2005 and May 2008. His remarkable speed earned him the title of the “Sub 10 King,” as he surpassed the 10-second barrier an incredible 97 times in the 100 meters, a record unmatched by any other athlete.

Throughout his career, the 41-year-old Powell achieved numerous accolades. As a member of Jamaica’s 4×100-meter relay team, he won three gold medals at the Olympics and World Championships. Additionally, he claimed five individual gold medals in the 100 and 200-meter events at the World Athletics Final.

Powell now joins an illustrious list of Bleu & Bougie Superstar Award recipients, including notable personalities such as television personality Safaree (Lloyd Samuels) of Love & Hip Hop, artists Bounty Killer and Nadine Sutherland, producer/sound system selector Kurt Riley, and music industry veteran Cristy Barber.

Bleu & Bougie and White Soiree En Blanc are renowned events organized by Jamaicans in New York City. These gatherings, which include food, drinks, and captivating music, will feature performances by talented DJs such as Colin Hines, Bishop Escobar, Richie Ras, Rich Rocc, and MV Stone, representing Jamaica. Representing New York will be DJ Roy of Road International and Icopsycho.
