Chaka Demus, born in West Kingston, had humble beginnings in the music industry. He frequented Kingston dances and caught the attention of Prince Jammy, who gave him the opportunity to DJ on his sound system. In 1985, Chaka Demus released his debut single, "Increase Your Knowledge," produced by Jammy. Initially, he was relatively unknown, and his early records didn't achieve chart success.

Despite these early setbacks, Chaka Demus's talent was recognized by fellow musicians, particularly Yellowman and Admiral Bailey. Yellowman collaborated with him on songs like "Everybody Loves The Chaka," "Scotty," and "Bring It To Me," while Admiral Bailey joined him for "One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer," which became his first hit.

In 1989, Chaka Demus released the album "The Original Chaka 'Watch me Ride'" on the Scorpio label, following the success of "Everybody Loves The Chaka." However, it was in the early 1990s that he achieved mainstream success when he met Pliers (Everton Bonner) and suggested they team up. Their partnership resulted in a string of hit singles and a number one album in the UK between 1993 and 1997.

Chaka Demus's success continued, and in 2007, he and Pliers reunited to record the track "Need Your Lovin." They performed "Murder She Wrote" alongside Alicia Keys at the 2007 American Music Awards. The duo released the album "So Proud" in Europe and the Middle East in October 2008. Additionally, Chaka Demus released a solo album called "DJ Spirit" in 2008.

Currently, Chaka Demus runs his own record label, Bright Star, where he has released records by his son, known as Marvellous. He continues to perform with Pliers and recorded a new album in 2012, featuring guest appearances from Pliers, Marvellous, and Freddie McGregor. In August 2013, he released the album "Second Coming" on the Fire and Ice label, which he co-owns with Winston Solomon.

Chaka Demus's net worth is estimated to be around 75 million dollars. His contributions to the music industry, both as a solo artist and alongside Pliers, have solidified his place in reggae history.
