NCB Foundation Launches $300 Million Disaster Relief Fund to Aid Hurricane Beryl Victims

National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCBJ) has recently announced the establishment of a $300 million disaster relief fund through its philanthropic arm, NCB Foundation. The fund aims to provide assistance to individuals and communities impacted by Hurricane Beryl, a category 4 system that wreaked havoc on several parts of the island. Working in collaboration with approved charitable organizations, the NCB Foundation will primarily focus on the restoration of homes and farmers' crops in severely affected parishes such as St Elizabeth, Hanover, and Manchester.

Supporting the Affected:
The NCB Foundation, with an initial pledge of $20 million from NCB, aims to mobilize resources from corporate entities and individuals to maximize the relief efforts. All donations received will be matched by NCB, up to a maximum of $150 million. Chairman of NCB Financial Group Limited (NCBFG), Michael Lee-Chin, expressed deep concern for the emotional and financial loss suffered by fellow Jamaicans due to the hurricane. The Fund's objective is to provide a total of $300 million to help restore normalcy to the lives and communities affected.

Call for Support:

In an impassioned plea, Lee-Chin urged NCB customers, other corporate entities, the general public, and the diaspora to support this crucial initiative. The NCB Foundation will match every dollar donated, effectively doubling the impact of each contribution. By encouraging widespread participation, the Fund aims to make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by Hurricane Beryl.

Donation Details:
Donations can be made online via transfers from July 5 to 31, 2024. The accounts in the name of NCB Building a Better Jamaica Fund for online transfers are as follows:

Past Relief Efforts:
NCB has a history of responding to crises and supporting the Jamaican community. Over two decades ago, the bank partnered with United Way of Jamaica to provide over $23 million in relief to 1,400 households affected by severe flooding. This support included assistance to farmers who had lost thousands of crops. The NCB Foundation's commitment to disaster relief and community development is steadfast, further emphasizing the importance of this Fund in aiding those affected by Hurricane Beryl.

The NCB Foundation's launch of the $300 million disaster relief fund demonstrates their dedication to supporting individuals and communities impacted by Hurricane Beryl. The collaboration with approved charitable organizations ensures effective distribution of aid to severely affected areas. By matching donations, NCB aims to maximize the impact of contributions and bring about a restoration of normalcy to the lives and communities affected. The call for support from NCB customers, corporate entities, the general public, and the diaspora emphasizes the importance of collective action in times of crisis. Together, we can make a difference and help those affected rebuild their lives.
