Professor Nuts Receives Inaugural Ruggu Dat 14 Karat Golden Mic Award at Kingston Festival

The 2024 Ruggu Dat 14 Karat Golden Mic Award is set to make its debut in Kingston, Jamaica on April 27, 2024, at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre. This celebratory event, known as the Ruggu Dat 80’s 90’s Music Festival, aims to recognize the significant contributions of members of the Jamaican music community who have had a career spanning over two decades.

Rugu Promotions recently announced that the highly coveted 2024 Ruggu Dat 14 Karat Golden Mic Award will be bestowed upon comedic Dancehall Artist, Professor Nuts. The award will be presented by his close friends and fellow music icons, Beresford Hammond, Damion ‘Jnr. Gong’ Marley, and Orville ‘Shaggy’ Burrell.

The decision to honor Professor Nuts with this prestigious award was an easy one, as he has played a vital role in the development of Dancehall, particularly in the aspect of fun and light storytelling entertainment since its inception. Additionally, his decade-long involvement as a judge on the talent show Magnum Kings and Queens Of Dancehall has helped nurture and promote new talent within the genre. The executive director of Rugu Promotions, Don Christopher, expressed the committee’s desire to acknowledge individuals who have made significant contributions to Dancehall before it’s too late, shifting away from the tradition of posthumous recognition.

The Ruggu Dat 14 Karat Golden Mic Awards committee comprises business leaders from Florida and Jamaica, as well as renowned artists and entertainment personalities, including broadcaster Richard Burgess, also known as Richie B. The committee’s objective is to select a deserving recipient each year to receive the award, which is made of actual 14 Karat Gold.

In an effort to create an award that is both unique and valuable, the Rugu Promotions team ensured that the Ruggu Dat Golden Mic Award is not only coveted for the honor it represents but also for its intrinsic worth. The award itself costs approximately $4,000 USD to produce, adding to its exclusivity and prestige. Recipients of this award will truly appreciate its significance and value.

The Ruggu Dat Golden Mic Awards event promises an unforgettable night of music and entertainment. Sound system stalwarts Metro Media and Kool FM DJ Krazy Kris will be providing the musical backdrop, while performances by Lady G, Professor Nuts, and Agent Sasco will captivate the audience. The event will be hosted by the charismatic former Magnum Kings and Queens Of Dancehall host, Yanique Curvy Diva, and the talented comedian and broadcaster, Christopher Johnny Daley.
