Bring It! Sean Paul drops classic reboot of Showtime Riddim

Showtime Riddim reenters the chat in  2024 with Sean Paul’s Bring It.The dancehall superstar releases the single from his Dutty Rock Productions music label after iconic producer Dave Kelly cleared the riddim’s use earlier this year.

“Dave Kelly reached out and said that I could use one of his rhythms. And, I immediately said, Showtime!,” Sean Paul explained. “I was very happy when he told me I could get a cut of it. This year, a lot of people are revamping some riddims from the past, but we can all agree this is a classic.”

The
Showtime Riddim
stood the test of time, and was highlighted in a recent Rolling Stone article as one of the “25 Riddims That Have Defined Jamaican Music”. Known for hits that defined 1997 and beyond, Bashment Party by Shaggy and Rayvon, and Spragga Benz’s We No Like, the riddim continues to resonate with fans worldwide.

In an 2022 interview with Vibe Magazine, Sean Paul expressed his admiration for the riddim, citing it as a standout beat on which he wished he could have voiced. Fast forward to 2024, and Sean Paul’s wish has become a reality with the release of Bring It, a track that pays homage to the golden era of 90s dancehall.

The work of the producer/songwriter has always been on Paul’s radar.

Showtime, to me, is one of the most prolific dancehall riddim. He has probably produced the most number ones in the country,” Paul, whose given name is Sean Paul Henriques shared. “My respect for him is very, very immense.”

 Honouring History

Taking his turn on the latest trend in the space, the reimagining of vintage dancehall riddims, the platinum recording artiste said there are a few noticeable differences.

“There are a few added things, revamped. I must say, big up to Sukku from Ward 21, News from Money Matters Entertainment, Copper Shaun and my brother Jigzag. All of us kind of came together, worked on it,” he explained. “The keys are a little different. We changed the key and speed so that the riddim is a little bouncer. Every time the people hear it, it will bring a good vibe.”

Sean Paul noted that although this single is his first time working with the notoriously private producer, he wants more.

“This [Bring It] is one of my dreams come true for me in the music business. I would love for me and him to write something together. To say I’m a fan of Dave Kelly is an understatement. He is not always given the due respect… he’s a generational type of guy.”

The track is available everywhere Sean Paul music is found. Check out more releases at duttyrockproductions.com.
