Kingston College Secured Their 35th Title At The 2024 (ISSA) GraceKennedy Boys’ Athletics Championships

Kingston College (KC) emerged victorious at the National Stadium as they successfully defended their ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ Athletics Championships title. This marked their 35th hold on the Mortimer Geddes Trophy and their fourth championship win in the past five years under the guidance of Head Coach Leaford Grant.

The five-day event concluded with a stunning performance by KC in the 4x400m relay, where they clocked an impressive time of 3:07.65 minutes. Jamaica College (JC) secured second place with a time of 3:08.79, while William Knibb finished in third place with a time of 3:12.65.

Coach Grant commended his team for their hard work and acknowledged the contribution of the coaching staff. He emphasized that the victory was a result of a collective team effort. Reflecting on previous championships, Grant expressed that the first championship win holds a special place in his heart as it marked the team's return to North Street. He added, "When you put in the work, you will be rewarded," and expressed his joy in retaining the title.

Amal Glasgow of KC delivered a spectacular performance in the Class One 200m, clinching victory with a time of 21.22 seconds. Gary Card of JC led the race until the final five meters but finished second with a time of 21.23s. Marcinho Rose secured third place with a time of 21.24s. In the Class Two category, Johan-Ramaldo Smythe of Muschett led from start to finish, winning the gold medal in 21.35s. Jabari Matheson of William Knibb took second place with a time of 21.64s, followed by Malique Dennis of JC in third place with a time of 21.87s. Mario Ross of Wolmers completed the Class Three sprint double, clocking 22.21s. Ched Brown of Calabar finished second with a time of 22.54s, and Oniel Lawrence of JC secured third place with a time of 22.73s.

In the Class One 800m event, Kemarrio Bygrave of JC delivered a dominant performance, securing the gold medal with a time of 1:51.75 minutes. Jaquan Coke of KC claimed the silver medal with a time of 1:52.59, while Yoshane Bowen of Maggoty secured the bronze with a time of 1:53.02. Cavel Nooks of JC equalled his personal best time in the Class Three 800m, winning the gold medal in 1:58.25. Camron Williams, also from JC, took silver in 2:02.53, and Luke Plummer of Sydney Pagon High secured the bronze with a time of 2:02.86.

Ethan Gioko of KC emerged victorious in the Class One 5000m event, crossing the finish line in 15:09.11. Daniel Pennant of St Jago finished second with a time of 16:53.99, while Jermain Hinds of Glengoffe took third place with a time of 17:02.38.

In the field events, Michael-Andre Edwards of JC delivered an outstanding performance in the Class Two triple jump, setting a meet record with a leap of 15.54m. J'Avair Cato, also from JC, finished second with a jump of 15.03m, while Amani Phillips of KC secured third place with a jump of 14.65m. Chavez Penn of JC emerged victorious in the Class One high jump, clearing a height of 2.05m. Jevontae Grant of Calabar and Santino Distin of Herbert Morrison both cleared 2.00m, but Grant was awarded the silver medal based on achieving the mark on his second attempt.

Deandre Bristol of St George's College claimed the gold medal in the javelin throw open event, recording a mark of 61.80m. Dorian Charles of JC took the silver with a mark of 61.13m, while Brandon Falconer of STETHS secured the bronze with a throw of 60.19m.
