Rohan Marley Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Goes To Trial, Judge Dismisses Some Claims. Allows Victim To Proceed With Allegations

Allegations and Denials

Villano, filed the lawsuit in June 2023, accusing Marley and his company, Shashamane Group, of quid pro quo sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment, and wrongful termination. In August, Marley sought to dismiss all claims.

Judge Otis D. Wright II's recent ruling allows Villano's harassment and hostile work environment claims under the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) to go to trial. However, the wrongful termination claim was dismissed as the firing decision occurred outside California. Additionally, the judge denied Marley's request to move the case to Florida, his state of residence.

Villano Speaks Out

On February 13, the day before the Bob Marley biopic "One Love" premiered, Villano publicly addressed the case. She stated the lawsuit wasn't just about her personal experience but reflected broader issues of workplace harassment and discrimination, especially against women in male-dominated industries.

Trial Date Set

The jury trial is scheduled for March 25, 2025, in California. Villano seeks at least $6.25 million for each remaining claim, plus additional punitive damages and attorney fees.

Marley's Response

Marley previously called the lawsuit "without merit" and vowed to defend himself vigorously. He maintains Villano voluntarily resigned and denies all accusations of misconduct.

Key Disagreements

Marley and Villano agree they met in 2019 but differ on subsequent events. Villano claims she joined the Lion Order cannabis brand in March 2021 with a promised 10% equity stake and faced unwanted sexual advances and derogatory treatment from Marley. She alleges he demanded sexual exclusivity and threatened to withhold her equity.

Marley denies these accusations and claims Villano voluntarily resigned months later. Their conflicting narratives will be presented at trial.
