Wailer's musical journey began in his early teens when he met and befriended Bob Marley in their hometown of Nine Mile, Saint Ann Parish. This chance encounter sparked a lifelong bond and musical partnership. Together, they formed The Wailing Wailers in 1963, alongside Peter Tosh.
While Wailer initially sang lead vocals less frequently than Marley and Tosh, his distinctive style, influenced by gospel and artists like Curtis Mayfield, became a crucial element of the group's sound. He contributed iconic songs like "Dreamland" and "Riding High" to their repertoire.
